Tesla Model X: Steering Rack (Remove and Replace)

Removal

1. Remove the front subframe (refer to procedure).
2. On each side of the vehicle, remove the nut that secures the sway bar to the sway bar link (torque 70 Nm). Caution: To prevent ball joint damage, always hold the ball joint pin with a wrench while loosening or tightening the lock nut.
3. Remove the LH and RH tie rod ends (refer to procedure).
4. Remove and discard the forward bolts (x2) that secure the steering rack to the subframe (torque 35 Nm).

    

5. Remove and discard the rear bolts (x2) that secure the steering rack to the subframe (torque 135 Nm).

    

6. Remove the steering rack from the front subframe.

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Caution: Replace all Patchbolt(s).

• Perform a full firmware update.
